Project Scope

  • Upgraded 125 Ton Auxiliary Building Crane
  • Installed AC motors for Bridge, Trolley, and Hoists
  • Installed Magnetek AC VFDs for all functions (hoists, trolley, & bridge) Power Limit Switches
  • Installed Main Power Disconnect Switch
  • Installed Joy Stick Controllers for all functions
  • Upgraded Cable Carrier System with new cables
  • Installed Eddy Current Braking System for hoisting functions
  • Installed Load Indicating System with readout in cab
  • Installed new wire rope on main hoist drum
  • Supervised Millwrights, Iron Workers, and Electricians in performance of project

Project Description

  • Enhanced crane from analog to digital
  • Increase reliability and reduce down time in support of refuel outages.
  • Upgrade to support activities associated with Independent Spent Fuel Storage (ISFSI)

Challenges

  • Coordination and execution challenges successfully met to refurbish the crane during the initial start-up of unit 2 and during normal plant operation of unit 1.
  • Scope was safety related with the incumbent requirements
  • Schedule – needed to get back online quickly and safely to support the NRC dry run schedule for Spent Fuel removal
